Does it really work?Unless you’re able to test the items before and after use we will not know if it actually is worth it…just using it in hopes it is doing it’s job is good enough for me. It’s small enough to travel with if you’d like but still too large for it to not be bulky in your purse/suitcase. I believe there was an even smaller option and I’d definitely go smaller if you intend to travel with it or even keep it in your car or something. I picked this size so I could have the option to put practically anything in my purse in there…keys, sunglasses, phone, etc.

Need to read instructions–not intuitive. This appears to work very well, but you have to know a few things about it that some of the negative reviewers were not aware of:You CANNOT see UV light with a camera, so your phone will NOT be able to record the light while it is working.Second, you CANNOT have it plugged in and use it for sanitizing at the same time. The plug is ONLY for charging the battery. Once the battery is charged, you should unplug it and use it until the light on the side of the case begins to show red during use.The proper way to use this device is as follows:1) Charge it fully until the Homedics light on the button on the side is a solid GREEN2) Unzip the case and place your phone (or whatever) inside using the clips (for phone)3) Zip up the case and make SURE to connect the zipper tab to the magnetic spot on the back that is outlined in white4) Press the Homedics button ONCE to begin the cycle. It will flash blue until it is done.As for those claiming that it does not kill viruses or bacteria, I would suggest that if they can prove that, they would be able to sue for false advertising. The site is VERY clear that it kills 99% of bacteria and viruses at the DNA level. They will provide you with a strip to show that the cycle works–some reviewers have reported no effect using something other than what the company provides and may therefore be using the wrong kind of product to test the company’s claims. Again, if you can prove that it does not work, you have a case against the company, but I am deeply skeptical that they are lying about killing 99% of viruses and bacteria at the DNA level.Once we learned how to use it correctly, we’ve been very happy with the product. Would give it 5 stars if it were more intuitive or worked while being charged, but that is minor.

OkOk but idk how it work or not, i turn on power flashing green light just 2 secand tutn off no flashing light maybe no battery. I do charge flashing green light non stop. Anyway ill figure out haha.

Ok,I hopeI just received mine. Seems to be very nice. Unfortunately, it was just a little smaller than I wanted. Really wanted to be able to place my whole electric toothbrush in it as the toothbrush sanitizers keep breaking. 2nd issue is I don’t know if it’s really working. With my toothbrush sanitizers I at least can see a light on through a little window, that’s how I know that 2 of them now have just stopped working.. no light anymore. So I wish it had a window in it just a big enough one so you can tell when the lights go out And you would need to replace the unit. It doesn’t come with any kind of card you cannot test it either. Other than not knowing if it works the bag itself seems like it’s OK. It would be awesome if you could see it worked, would rate higher.

Checked for functionality. ????????The media could not be loaded.

I tested this to be sure that these were not factory defects at that unusually low price. I am happy to report I received the real deal and it works as advertised. I defeated the safety interlock with a magnet, in order to check performance with a UVC test strip. You can see the effect of me turning it off and on in this video.

Yes, light DOES come on and yes, it disinfectsI’ve had this device for 2 years now and use it daily, for everything from my phone, to face mask, to my night-time mouthguard. I’ve read where some people had put their phone into the device, to see if there was a light; funnily enough, I had initially done that, too … and YES, the bright light was definitely on. So if the negative reviewers were telling the truth AND the device was charged and indicated it was functioning, then they must have has a broken device and should have exchanged it. One way I know my device does kill at least bacteria (and therefore, probably many/most viruses) is that my night-time mouth guard is now constantly odor-free: I rinse it with water when I take it out of my mouth each morning, then pop it into this device … and there is NO ODOR any more. If you’ve ever worn a retainer or mouth-guard, you know that it’s a challenge to keep them free of odor-causing bacteria … I no longer have to scrub or soak my mouthpiece to thoroughly disinfect it. So I know my device functions and I recommend that you get this device, charge it, start your phone video, put the phone in, ensure the zipper is correctly closed, run it and check the video. If the video shows there’s a bright light, you’re good to go. If not, exchange your device and try it again.

Decent – could be MUCH betterPurchased this to sanitize a number of household items, including eyeglasses, cell phones, TV remotes, keys, jewelry, and face masks. For the most part, it works well. The device is large enough to fit all the above items, including all but one of our TV remotes, and my iPhone XS max. I can also fit N95 face masks, though they need to be a little “squished” a bit to fit inside, and I need to remove the normal platform. The Sanitizer ships with a snap-in platform for regular items, and a set of three clips for holding your cell phone. These are useful, but it would have been a nice touch if HoMedics had included some type of pouch on the outside to hold the cell phone clips. It won’t take long before these get lost. What are my issues? Well, first of all, if it were slightly larger, it would be more useful, as more items would fit within. Secondly, and this is the BIGGEST issue, and the reason for it losing 2 stars, is the battery is woefully inadequate. I am able to get, at most, 3 sanitation cycles with a fully-charged battery. That’s about three minutes of use.In addition, it takes an average of 40 minutes to fully charge, even on a rapid USB charger.I knew the issues with the battery before buying this product, but I incorrectly assumed I’d be able to plug it into the wall via a USB charger, and get indefinite use out of it while at home or in the office.Wrong. It will not work with a discharged battery, even if plugged in. Also, it will not automatically charge when in use. I thought maybe I could bring along a battery bank and extend the number of cleaning cycles, but nope. This GREATLY reduces the utility of this device, and I can’t help but think a little more thought in the design process could have resulted in a far better product.Being able to bring this product with me when I go out is of limited value, so the “portable” nature that likely drove the battery compromise isn’t worth the tradeoff of horrible battery life and exceedingly long recharge time.Overall, I recommend this product with serious reservations.

Components Hidden and Poor InstructionsThe media could not be loaded.

I just received my item and had a hard time figuring out how to use it. The clips are hidden under the tray on bottom. The cord receptacle is in a hidden compartment! No instruction or notifications of this! I bought two, this grey one and a black one that luckily had better instructions. Good price, spacious and nice design.
